About Canada Passport photos
A Canada Passport photo must be 50 × 70 mm with your face centred, a neutral expression and a plain light background. FileTinker crops to that exact ratio and exports at 591 × 827 px and 300 DPI so it prints at the right physical size.
Everything runs in your browser, so your photo stays private. If your country isn't listed, the main passport-photo tool covers more sizes — and you can always crop here, then print several copies on one 6 × 4 in photo at home or at a kiosk.
Canada uses an unusually large 50 × 70 mm photo with the face measuring 31–36 mm from chin to crown — photos in the common 35 × 45 mm format are rejected. For mailed paper applications, Government of Canada rules also expect the photographer's details on the back of the print, so check which submission route you are using.
Frequently asked questions
What size is a Canada Passport photo?
A Canada Passport photo is 50 × 70 mm. FileTinker outputs it at exactly 591 × 827 pixels at 300 DPI, which is the print resolution most authorities and photo labs expect.
What background colour will it have?
White by default — or pick off-white, light grey, light blue or a custom colour. Click Remove background in the tool first (the colour fills transparent areas); or take the photo against a plain light wall and keep your head and shoulders inside the oval guide.
Can I print it or upload it?
Yes. The 591 × 827 px, 300 DPI JPEG is sized for both — print it at 50 × 70 mm, or upload it wherever a digital Canada Passport photo is required.
Is my photo uploaded?
No. The photo is cropped and resized entirely in your browser; it never leaves your device.
Why is my Canadian passport photo bigger than other countries'?
Canada's 50 × 70 mm format is simply larger than the 35 × 45 mm most countries use. Print it at exactly 50 × 70 mm — letting the printer 'fit to page' or defaulting to 4 × 6 photo size will throw the head-size measurement out of spec.
