How to convert an image

  1. Add your image above — PNG, JPG, WebP, GIF, HEIC, TIFF and more are accepted. It's read locally, never uploaded.
  2. Choose the format you want to convert to: JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP, ICO, and AVIF where your browser supports it.
  3. Press convert, then download. The image keeps its original dimensions; only the format changes.

About converting image formats

Different formats suit different jobs. JPG is best for photos and small files; PNG keeps sharp edges and transparency for logos and screenshots; WebP and AVIF give the smallest modern files for the web; GIF and BMP exist mostly for legacy use; ICO is for favicons. Converting lets you switch between them without extra software.

A common need is turning iPhone HEIC photos into JPG so they open everywhere, or converting PNG screenshots to JPG to shrink them. Note that converting a transparent PNG or WebP to JPG, GIF or BMP fills the transparent areas with white, since those formats have no transparency — FileTinker warns you before it does.

Every conversion happens in your browser using the canvas, so your images stay private and there's no upload, queue, or sign-up.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert an image to another format?

Add your image, pick the target format from the menu (or use a dedicated page like PNG to JPG), and press convert. The converted file downloads instantly.

Can I convert HEIC photos from my iPhone?

Yes. HEIC and HEIF files are decoded in your browser and can be converted to JPG, PNG, WebP and more so they open on any device.

Will I lose transparency converting PNG to JPG?

JPG, GIF and BMP have no transparency, so transparent areas are filled with white. Convert to PNG or WebP instead if you need to keep transparency — FileTinker warns you when this applies.

Are my images uploaded?

No. Conversion runs entirely in your browser; your images never leave your device and nothing is stored on a server.
