About removing image backgrounds
This tool uses an on-device AI model (MODNet) to separate the subject from its background and make everything else transparent, saving the result as a PNG. It's tuned for people, so portraits, selfies and profile pictures come out cleanest, while general objects and products may be less precise. The first run downloads the model — a few megabytes — and after that it's cached, so later images process much faster, using WebGPU or WebAssembly depending on your browser.
