About blurring images
A Gaussian blur softens an image by averaging each pixel with its neighbours, smoothing out detail and noise. A light blur is great for backgrounds behind text, for a dreamy aesthetic, or for de-emphasising part of a picture; a heavy blur turns a photo into soft colour shapes.
This tool uses the browser native blur, so it is fast even on large images, and everything is processed locally — your photo is never uploaded. For hiding truly sensitive information, prefer pixelation, since a very strong blur can occasionally be partly undone.
Frequently asked questions
How do I blur an image?
Upload your image and drag the blur slider; a bigger radius means a stronger blur. The preview updates live — download when you're happy.
Can I blur to hide private details?
A strong blur reduces legibility, but very heavy blurs can sometimes be partially reversed. For sensitive redaction, pixelation with a large block size is safer.
Does it reduce quality or size?
The output keeps the original dimensions. PNG and WebP keep their format (and transparency); other formats save as high-quality JPEG.
Is my image uploaded?
No. The blur is applied entirely in your browser, so your photo never leaves your device.
